Constraining the creative process is all the rage: Two-days-to-make-a film festivals, monthlong novel-writing events, and now this: "ShortLived 2.0", a three-month-long playwriting competition.

Refereed by PianoFight productions, which apparently likes to capitalize the middle consonant of its titles, the event means a lot of brand-new short plays for us to judge. Audiences are given scorecards, just like the mean people on TV. It continues every weekend until the Championship Weekend, June 26-27, when the four winningest plays vie for the chance at a fully produced run spanning one month.

Last year’s winner, Daniel Heath, is back to defend his position. Can he win again? It’s just like reality TV, only … real, and smarter, and better, and concerned with a legitimate art form.

Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: April 10. Continues through June 27, 2009
